Wade Joseph Freeman, Sr.

Wade J. Freeman Sr., 84, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away on October 10, 2018. Wade is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Maggie; his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Wade Jr. and Meghan; his three precious granddaughters Amelia Kathleen, Grace Jennie and Colleen Rose. They were his cherished family whom he loved dearly and with whom he enjoyed many adventures traveling and spending time together.

Wade was born October 5, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to Mary and Gene Freeman Sr., who pre-deceased him. His brother, Gene Freeman Jr., also pre-deceased him. He is survived by his siblings, Ann Bammer, Judy Giblin, and Bill Freeman. Wade spent his childhood in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from St. Louis University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Wade later earned a Masters Degree in Business from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Upon graduation from college, he was on active duty with the United States Air Force 364th Pilot Training Wing and attained the rank of Captain in the Reserve. In 1960, he came to Kansas City to accept an Engineering position with Trans World Airlines. That same year, he met the love of his life, Maggie, and they enjoyed many years together traveling all over the world. He was an avid sailor and active member of the Perry Yacht Club. He and Maggie sailed Lake Perry, Kansas; Long Island Sound; the Chesapeake Bay; and the Caribbean. He also enjoyed playing tennis for many years, especially with players in the “Wednesday Night Tennis Championship of the World” Group. Wade worked for TWA for 33 years, retiring from the position of Director: Planning, Property and Facility Support.

His Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a longtime member of the Church of St. Ann, Prairie Village, he served as Chairman of the Finance Council and was a Eucharistic Minister. Most recently, he was a member of Nativity Parish, Leawood, where he served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister and member of the Funeral Choir until his failing health prevented him from continuing.

He was a long time member of the Carriage Club, serving as Club President 1979-80. He was also active in Downtown Rotary Club 13 and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as President of the Tomahawk Road Homes Association, Mission Hills, Kansas. After moving to Leawood, Wade served as Treasurer and President of the Huntington Farms Homes Association. Friends are well aware of his love of music, especially country and classical music. Even more importantly, his love song with Maggie was “Amigos Para Siempre”.

A Visitation will be held Monday, October 15th at Nativity Catholic Church at 9:00 AM, with Mass to follow at 10:30. The family suggests contributions to Nativity Catholic Church or National Parkinson Foundation.
