Wallace James Fredrickson

He was a 1954 graduate of Westport High School. He attended one semester at Central Missouri State University and enlisted in the Air Force in January of 1955. He was stationed at the SAC Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas close to his Swedish side of the family in Lindsborg, Ks. He was an electrician on the B54 Bomber attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. He received an early out in 1958 to return to college and graduated from Central Missouri State in 1961. He had stayed in the Reserves while attending college and therefore was recalled during the Berlin Crisis which resulted in the Berlin Wall being built. He then became a Claims Adjuster for Travelers Insurance Co. He retired in Dec 1998 after 36 years of service.

He was a member of the Blue Ridge Blvd. United Methodist Church (The Ridge). He was active in Youth Work Camps sponsored by the church for 10 years. He participated in Adult Work Camps during those 10 years as well and after. He organized, managed and played in 1 of 2 men’s softball teams, a coed softball team and a coed Volleyball team sponsored by the church.

He and the boys participated in the YMCA Indian Guide program. He was a leader in Boy Scout Troup 383 in Independence, MO.

Wally went deer hunting every year that he was able. He enjoyed going to his property in Lincoln, Missouri just to commune with nature as well as deer hunting. He went pheasant hunting in Nebraska for several years. Occasionally, he took his wife as his bird dog. She pointed, yelled cock or hen but absolutely refused to retrieve.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margie of Independence, MO; son Van (Beth) of Blue Springs, MO; son Lance (Mark) of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren Ryan Johnson and Caleb Fredrickson.

A celebration of life will be held at Blue Ridge United Methodist Church (The Ridge) on Saturday, April 20. Visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 11:00a.m. Private military burial to follow.
