Walter Lee Thompson

Walter Lee Thompson was born on January 29, 1929 to Inez Strother and Ben Thompson, in the DeSoto Parish of Frierson Louisiana. He passed away on December 9, 2017 at his home.

Walter married Georgia Mae Bryant who was from Shreveport, LA in 1951 and they moved to Kansas City, Missouri. While in Kansas City, he worked for Sheffield Steel Company, which is now called Armco Steel Company, for almost 40 years. He also kept busy on the side as a barber and mechanic. He and some of his friends also played with the Monarchs baseball team on their days off. He was a member of Kansas City Amos Johnson Masonic Lodge #148 AF&AM for upwards of 40 years. Walter was also a member of the Kanas City Community Garden, Pioneer Club, AARP Chapter 805, Hillcrest Community Center Seniors, Southern Communities Coalition and Mt. Moriah’s LIFT group.

Walter was a people person and a true Renaissance man. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church, Charter member of the United Missionary Baptist Church and member of Salem Baptist Church in his early years in Kansas City, Kansas. In his later years, he attended St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and Concord Fortress of Hope.

He leaves to cherish his son, Eric Thompson and his three daughters; Toni Anderson, and her three daughters, Gabrielle Anderson, Lisa Horn (Paul) and their daughter Lena, and Justina Dewberry - Robin Thompson-Thomas and her three children, Jewel (Candice) Thomas, Melissa Barbi (Cavin), and her children, Jasmine, Lily and Cirocco, Andre’ Thomas and his son, Andre’ Jr., - Sharon Thompson and her four children; Bryant Williams and his son Xavier, and her twins, Alan and Alex Kneeland, and his son, Makhi and last grandchild, Raven Mack and her son, Desmond and cousins.

Masonic Service will be Friday, December 22, 2017 with visitation from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and the service at 7:00pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Funeral Service will be at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home with visitation from 9:00am – 11:00am Saturday, December 23, 2017 with the funeral at 11:00am and burial will be at Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
