He attended Elmhurst College in Chicago and graduated from William Jewell College. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and enjoyed attending the yearly pig dinners with his fraternity brothers. He obtained his Masters Degree from Webster University. Al taught Math and Physics at DeVry University for 36 years.
He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 161, Independence, Missouri for over 40 years, and taught Hunter Education Classes with the Missouri Department of Conservation for over 20 years. He was a judge for the Greater Kansas City Science Fair for over 40 years. Al was a veteran of the Navy Reserves retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.
Al and his wife, Sarah, both loved the Kansas City Chiefs and were season ticket holders for 49 years. They liked to take cruises and travel with their family members.
Al is survived by his wife Sarah of the home, son Billy and wife Tabitha, son James and wife Michelle, step-daughter Cindy Warmbrodt; twin brother David, sister Alice Boursaw, brother-in-law George and wife Debbie Wharton, and sister-in-law Judy Wharton; and three granddaughters: Christine, Alesha, and Nicole. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Al will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A funeral service will occur 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home followed by interment at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
