

Zeno (Bud) Yates, 94, Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS, passed away December 30, 2011 at home. Bud was born in Minneapolis, MN, to Sarah (Hocum) and Zeno Yates, Sr. In 1939, Bud joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed at Merced Air Base. Prior to the service, he attended the University of Minnesota and the University of Missouri, studying business. Bud married Helen Gunn in 1943 at Country Club Christian Church. Daughter Sara was born in 1945 in Kansas City. The family settled in Prairie Village, Kansas. Daughter Kathy was born in 1957. After WWII, Bud returned to Kansas City and remained active in the insurance business until age 92. He divided his time between church and community activities. He enjoyed table tennis, bridge and golf as well as attending Salt & Pepper men’s group. He was a lifelong swimmer and was most proud of his record as a national swimming champion – Senior Olympics for 10 years from 1982 to 1992. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. He is survived by his sister, Gloria Dilley; his daughters, Kathy Kinnaman and husband Mark, and Sara Wiklund and husband Rich; grandchildren Brian Wiklund, Jennifer Brogan, Carrie Kinnaman and Ben Kinnaman; and great-grandchildren Peyton Wiklund, Addison Wiklund, Bo Wiklund and Calum Brogan. Visitation will be held 10 – 11 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 3 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeview Village Foundation, 9100 Park St., Lenexa, KS 66215.
