

Brett Anthony Nicholson passed away on September 3, 2024, at the age of 44. Born on September 15, 1979, in Miami, Florida, Brett grew up in both Miami and Tallahassee, forming lifelong memories and friendships along the way. He went to Wakulla High School in Crawfordville, Florida and his educational journey continued in Texas at Lone Star College and The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston (UTMB), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. While at UTMB, Brett was honored as a School of Nursing Senator and was named to "Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges."
Though he never pursued a formal occupation, Brett's life was filled with passion and interests. He had a deep love for the sun and the sand, finding joy in spending time by the water - he found solace in Florida's Emerald Coast. Over the years, he also loved fishing, camping, traveling, listening to music, dancing and drawing art.
A true animal lover, especially fond of pit bulls (specifically white ones), Brett was a strong advocate for animal rescue. In his memory and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Villalobos Dog Rescue Center, The Asher House Animal Sanctuary, or a dog rescue of your choice.
Brett is preceded in death by his grandfathers E.Z. Nicholson and Jim Kimmel, his grandmothers C. Mimi Bruce and Mary H. Nicholson, his mother Linda L. Nicholson and his father Richard W. Nicholson.
He is survived by his sisters Tracy Locke (Mark) and Megan Nicholson (Brian,) his uncle Ed Kimmel, his aunt Dee Kimmel, his stepmother Hannah Harrell, his stepsisters Lola Bass (Joe) and Rita Sadler, his stepbrother Jimmie Harrell (Lenae,) his stepfather Joe Korpics, his cousins Candice, Grace, Victoria, Jon, Joel, and Jeremiah Kimmel, his nephews Jacob, Tyler, Justin, and Dayton and nieces Libbie, Jessica, and Jenny.
Brett will always be remembered for his kind spirit, infectious laugh and hilarious personality. He brought brightness to every room. His love for family, friends and animals will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
