On September 22, 2025, Charlie Valdez, 57, of Katy, Texas, passed away surrounded by family. A devoted husband, son, brother, and stepfather, he lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to those he held dear.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Charlie carried his hometown spirit with him throughout his life. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his family, always putting their happiness and well-being first. His kindness, humor, and steady presence touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Charlie had a lifelong love of baseball. Whether cheering on his favorite team, reminiscing about games from his youth, or tossing a ball in the yard, the sport brought him joy and connection. Baseball was more than a pastime—it was a reflection of his love for tradition, community, and teamwork.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Valdez; his stepchildren, Hannah, Lauren, Katelynn, and Jacob Wertz; his devoted mother, Esperanza Valdez; his sister, Margie Bustos and her husband, Mauro Bustos; his sister, Laura Mata and her husband, Fidencio Mata; and his beloved niece, Andrea, and nephews, Patrick and Carlos; his aunts, Irma and Francis. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Valdez, and his brother, John Paul Valdez.
Charlie’s life was a reminder of the beauty of simple joys—family dinners, shared laughter, and steadfast support. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever treasure the time spent with him.
A visitation to honor Charlie’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas 77494. Funeral services will follow on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at St. James Apostle Catholic Church, 907 W. Theo Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78225, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with visitation, followed by a Rosary at 2:30 p.m. and Mass at 3:00 p.m.
