Clifford Wayne Matthews I was born on April 5, 1958, to the union of Mary Katherine Matthews and Smith Matthews, in Covington, TN; both whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandson Shaun A. Harrison Jr. and his sister Barbra D. Matthews.
Clifford accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at a young age under the leadership of Bishop Austin Layne Sr., Temple Church of Christ of The Apostolic Faith.
Clifford later became the pastor of Temple Church of Christ of The Apostolic Faith in which he served as the senior pastor for over 11 years. Clifford later branched out to start a new church, Place of Hope Recovery & Restoration, in which he pastored until his passing.
Clifford received his high school education at Sumner High School. He furthered his education and received his master’s degree in education. He retired as a St. Louis Public School teacher with over 30 years of service to the public.
As a teacher in the St. Louis Public School District, he was instrumental in many students graduating to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, military soldiers and so many other professions. He also taught for the Lamar school district for 3 years, when relocating to Katy TX. He was well known by the staff and students in the district. HE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN EDUCATION!
He was what many called a Preacher's - Preacher. He could take the Word of God and teach it on a level that would explain to all in a simple fashion. As a pastor he led many to Jesus Christ under the Apostolic Faith. He was an awesome teacher, preacher, and leader that will be missed for generations to come.
Clifford was a loving husband, father, sibling, and friend. He showed that he cared for others in a unique way. Whether it was feeding, giving monetarily or a simple kind word. He loved to plant flowers, tend to his yard work, and watch movies with Kimberly.
He leaves to cherish his memory; a loving, devoted and faithful wife, Kimberly; six children, Arnette (Shaun Sr.), Clifford II, Ahnna, Ronald (Taneisha), Malik, and Donielle; 10 grandchildren, Ryan II, Yasmine, Shaelynn, Autumn, Summer, Haleigh, Riley, Taron, Jordan, Bria; 8 siblings Miles (Barbara), Jackie, DonRay, Cynthia (Jesse), Deborah (Dewitt), David, Tracie (Sherman), Kenneth (Lois) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.katyfh.com for the Matthews family.
