

Long-time Rapid City, South Dakota resident, David Lee Pengra, age 87, passed away after a short illness, on June 14, 2016, in Katy, TX. He was born on September 16, 1928, to Donald and Mary (Huss) Pengra. The youngest of three children, Mr. Pengra was raised in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1946. He and Dolores Cunningham were married on June 4, 1950.
During his life, Mr. Pengra was active in the community and in his children's lives. Dave served as president of the Canyon Lake Elementary School PTA, Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 72 and of Cub Scout Pack 6. Dave spread his love of baseball by coaching Little League and Pony League baseball teams for many years. Prior to moving to the Houston, TX area, he worked for several years at his beloved Storybook Island in Rapid City where he always took immense pride in caring for the facilities and animals. Dave’s smile and humor will resonate with all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Pengra is survived by his wife (Dolores, Katy, TX); his daughter (Stephanie McFarland Meester, Katy, TX); two sons (Clark Pengra, Clarksburg, MD and Brian Pengra, Lisle, IL); and his sister (Joy Potter, Burnsville, MN). He was preceded in death by his daughter Nancy (Pengra) Leach and his brother Robert Pengra.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Rosenberg, TX (1400 Radio Lane). A second memorial service will be held in Rapid City later in the summer, with interment in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
