Dorothy Marie was born April 13th, 1938, in Cullman, Alabama to George and Gertrude Sheppard. She moved with her family to Mobile, Alabama, where she graduated from Bishop Toolen Catholic High School in 1954. Mobile is where she would meet the love of her life, Jack Bierman, while he was stationed there on the Air Force Base. They would go on to marry in 1962 and have 63 beautiful years together and raise two children. She was his ”SUG”. She worked in various clerical roles while stationed on Air Force Bases. After moving to Texas, she eventually retired from Texas Instruments. As a military wife, she enjoyed traveling overseas and throughout the United States. She loved gardening and tending to the beautiful flowers in her flowerbeds at home. She loved shopping for clothes, and she was always neatly dressed. Her love of clothes came long before adulthood, back when she was a young girl sitting on the porch with her older sister. Together, they would spend hours carefully cutting out outfits from catalogs for their paper dolls. Into adulthood, she had fond memories of Saturday shopping sprees at Foleys with her daughter, during the Red Apple Sales, always looking for the best bargain. She also found great joy in sewing and quilting with the quilting group at church. Her greatest labor of love was sewing her daughter’s wedding dress, and what a beautiful dress it was. She put so much love and time into making it perfect, and it will always be treasured.
She stayed strong and steadfast in her Catholic faith throughout her life and was a parishioner at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church since its inception.
She cherished the time spent with family and especially loved being with her grandchildren. They brought her so much joy and laughter, and being their grandmother was one of her greatest blessings, and she embraced it with all her heart.
Mrs. Dorothy Bierman was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Sheppard, her brother, John Sheppard, her sister Elizabeth Jane Sheppard, and her son, Michael Eugene Bierman. She leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years, Jack Eugene Bierman of Katy, TX, daughter Barbara Sauseda and husband Richard of Katy, TX, granddaughter Stephanie Servi and husband Nicholas of Katy, TX, grandson Matthew Sauseda of Katy, TX, an older sister Mary Sledge of Decatur, Alabama, sister-in law Marjorie Orr of North Lake, TX and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but the shared memories and the love she gave will remain in our hearts forever. The family would like to give special thanks to the Homebound Ministry from her church for visiting with her weekly for bringing comfort, reading the Gospel and sharing in prayer. Their kindness and devotion meant so much to her and to her family.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Dorothy will be held at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church on Saturday May 16th at 10:00 am.
