Gary Lynn Cole, age 76, of Houston, TX passed away on Tuesday, March, 12, 2024. Gary was born September 5, 1947 to Albert V. Cole and Olive M. Cole in Honey Grove, TX, one of five siblings. Gary lived in Houston most of his life and was a well-respected, trusted, and successful business owner. He started his work journey at NASA as a machinist on the Apollo missions. While employed at NASA, he opened his first automotive shop which led to a bright future with the opening of Cole’s Custom Automotive.
Through the years, Gary was able to do what he loved, fix anything and everything. In 1978, his beloved daughter Courtney was born. They did everything together, if Gary went, Courtney went. Over his many years, Gary enjoyed and succeeded at everything he set out to learn or accomplish. His interests included fast cars, fast boats, Airplanes, water skiing, snow skiing, barefoot skiing, showing cars, spending time with family at casinos, and the many trips he was able to take over the years. In 1992, Gary married the love of his life, Ann Cole, and they were fortunate to enjoy many of his interests together as well as work side by side.
Upon “retirement” in 2006, Gary and Ann relocated to a private airport community in Richmond, TX. He was a valued member of the Covey Trails community for his remaining years, spending much of his time continuing to do what he loved, work. His proudest moment was in 2009, the birth of his first and only Grand-Child, Joley. They were immediate best friends. When Joley expressed interest in becoming a pilot when she grows up, Pops hopped in a plane and said “Let’s fly”! They spent many hours together getting in trouble, riding and driving toys, and planning her future. He was her biggest supporter and fan, he even enjoyed sitting through dance competitions and shows just to watch her perform. In 2022, Gary and Ann gained a son-in-law in Dwayne “Ralph” McAbee. A perfect person to take care of his girls Ann, Courtney, and Joley. Gary taught him immeasurable things, both about work and family. Many great memories were shared by both family and friends, and Gary will be deeply missed by all.
Gary is survived by his wife, Ann; his daughter Courtney and her husband Dwayne “Ralph” McAbee; Grand-Daughter Joley Crow; his brother Dale Cole and wife Laima; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend Gary’s visitation on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 4:00-8:00pm at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77494. Services will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at 2:00pm at Katy Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Forest Park SW Cemetery at 9040 FM-359, Richmond, TX 77406.
