

Gladys Anderson Marple, 95, passed away on March 6, 2015. She was born in Brockton, MA and raised in Weymouth, MA where she met her loving husband of 69 years, Stanley Marple Jr. Gladys graduated from Boston University with a B.S. in political science and moved to Houston in 1941.
Gladys raised two sons, Charles and Melvin. She very much enjoyed living in The Netherlands for a two year assignment with Shell and from there traveled with her family throughout Europe. Her love of traveling the world continued throughout her life.
Gladys was a longtime member of Riverside UMC in Houston where she sang in the choir and served on many committees, giving generously of her time and talents. She actively volunteered with her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, hosting galas and providing books for Texas Children’s Hospital. Gladys also volunteered with the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to shop, play bridge and plan parties.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband and two sons. She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Joan Moore of CA and Diana Robinson of PA, two granddaughters, Sarah Hubbell of Katy, TX and Victoria Cobb of Richmond, VA, and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Gladys’ life will be held at 3:00 on Saturday, March 14th at Riverside UMC, 4920 Cullen Blvd., Houston, TX 77004. Donations in honor of Gladys may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
