It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Heidi Elizabeth Goertz Matthews, a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, valued sister, and precious friend. Heidi, 35, of Houston, Texas, was called home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2025, after a courageous three-month medical battle.
Born on July 15, 1990 in Lufkin, Texas to Samuel and Gretchen Goertz, Heidi was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. She built a beautiful life with her husband of seven years, Andrew, and their two precious children, her 6-year-old son Tristan and her 3-year-old daughter Anastasia.
Heidi’s unwavering strength and resilience were an inspiration throughout her hospitalization from September to December 2025. She faced numerous medical procedures, including a heart transplant in late November, with incredible bravery, fighting with every ounce of her being to return to her family.
Tragically, on Christmas night, Heidi suffered a massive stroke, and her valiant fight for life came to an end on the afternoon of December 27, 2025.
Even in her final moments, Heidi’s giving spirit shone brightly. As an organ donor, she gave the ultimate gift—the gift of life—to several people in need, a testament to her enduring legacy of love and compassion.
Heidi's passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of her husband, Andrew, their two young children, and all who were blessed to know her.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers and support during this difficult time. Heidi’s memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of those she touched.
Psalms 23 1-6
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Romans 8 38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.'
Heidi is preceded in death by her grandparents Leo Pete Goertz, Eddie Ruth Goertz, Charles Boerner Jr., and Mary Ellen Bell.
