Herb was born August 14, 1937 in Weimar, Texas to Albertina (Hoelscher) Pavlik and Frank Joseph Pavlik. After graduating from Weimar High School in 1955, he moved to Houston, Texas and worked many different jobs before accepting a position working for the Vice President of the railroad in Fort Worth, Texas.
In 1962, he returned to Houston where he met Marye Virginia Slaydon while she was working for the employment agency where he applied when he was looking for a new job. He was hired shortly after as a salesman for T. F. Hudgins & Associates, where he remained for more than 45 years before retiring in 2007. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve 925th as a Military Police Officer, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and attended classes at The University of Houston for many years.
Herb and Virginia wed on July 4, 1964 and went on to have three children; Kimberly, Michael, and Carole. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on July 4, 2022.
Family meant the world to Herb. He was extremely proud of Virginia and his children and loved them all dearly. They spent many family vacations together traveling around the country in their pop-up camper, including trips all the way to Canada and back.
He also loved photography, visiting the National Parks, and was an avid gardener. If he wasn’t taking pictures or inside reading the newspaper, he could be found in his backyard garden tending to his tomato plants, cucumber, squash, okra, broccoli, lettuce, kale, and countless other vegetables and flowers.
Herb’s favorite food above all else was homemade vanilla ice cream. In a fitting tribute, he passed away on National Ice Cream Day. In honor of his love of ice cream, the frozen dessert will be served at the reception following his funeral service.
Herb was preceded in death by his father, Frank Pavlik; mother, Albertina Pavlik; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Pavlik; daughter Kimberly (Pavlik) Wilker and husband Tom; grandchildren Kristen Wilker and Allie (Wilker) King; son Michael Pavlik; and daughter, Carole Pavlik.
