Isabel Barrientos

Early in her career, Isabel was the director of cosmetics at a major department store in Bogotá, Colombia. She was also a loving homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, arts and crafts, traveling and most of all taking care of her family.

Isabel grew up during the Spanish civil war. She moved to Bogotá in 1958 with her sister and brother-in-law, who had migrated to Colombia. It was in Bogotá that she met Javier, through his sisters who were frequent customers at her beauty counter.

Isabel and Javier traveled the world, moving to La Paz, Bolivia, Houston and Dallas, Texas, Wassenaar, Netherlands, and back to Bogotá until 1997 when they moved back to Houston to join their daughters in the United States. Isabel loved to travel and visited most countries in Latin America and Western Europe, as well as Singapore, Indonesia, and China. She was a great hostess and enjoyed gathering friends and family at her home. Her home and family were everything to her.

Isabel was preceded in rest by her father, Severiano Olea; her mother, Beatriz Gutierrez; her sister Beatriz Olea and husband José Antonio Cortés; and her beloved daughter, Claudia Cartwright.

She is survived by her husband, Francisco Javier Barrientos; her daughters, Maribel Vogel and husband Ricardo, Laura Barrientos and husband David Sena, Fletcher Cartwright, son-in-law and Marisol Mirsky and ex-husband Andrew; her grandchildren, Cristina Nikolov, Andrew Vogel, Rafael Sena, Severiano Sena, Catalina Cartwright, Nicholas Mirsky, and Tatiana Mirsky.

A visitation for Isabel will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas 77494. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM and reception from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Committal for immediate family only will be Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Isabel’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
