

James “Jim” Longaker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away January 29, 2025, at the age of 79. James grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, his life was filled with love for his family and his passion for travel.
Jim was a proud graduate of De La Salle High School, and he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Louisiana Tech University in 1967, followed by an MBA from Louisiana State University in 1969. He dedicated much of his professional life as a Certified Personal Accountant and as Chief Financial Officer for American Surgical Holdings.
Jim was deeply devoted to his family. He and his wife, Brenda Longaker, were married on January 3, 1976 in New Orleans and spent 49 years together creating memories and raising their children. Jim took great joy in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts, relishing every opportunity to spend time with those he loved.
He was also an avid traveler, having explored all seven continents. Jim’s love for adventure took him to places many only dream of visiting. Just in the last two years he visited Antarctica, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Bhutan, Canada, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia,Slovenia, Greece, Armenia, Kurdistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Albania, India, Nepal, and countless other countries over the years. His sense of curiosity and wanderlust were unmatched, and his stories from his travels enriched the lives of everyone around him.
Jim had a variety of interests that brought him joy. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, long walks along the bayou, woodworking, line dancing, and cooking—winning the chili cook-off two years in a row was one of his proudest moments. He was also a huge supporter of the arts, frequently attending theater performances and symphony concerts, always eager to experience the beauty and creativity of the world around him.
Jim proudly served in the United States Navy as a Yeoman aboard the USS Tattnall during the Vietnam War. His service to his country was an important part of his legacy, one that he carried with honor throughout his life.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Davis Longaker and Ann Bryan Longaker. He is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda Longaker; his daughter, Vicky Tillerson (Robert) and grandchildren Sienna, Reece, and Grant Tillerson; his son, Doug Longaker (Ashley) and grandchildren Dylan and Gwenyth Longaker; his brother, Garry Longaker (Tricia); and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
Jim will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his generosity of heart, and his dedication to family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
