Ralph Louis Gremmel

Ralph Louis Gremmel passed peacefully from this world on September 2, 2020 aged 88. He was born on March 8, 1932 in Uvalde, Texas to Tennie Wood Gremmel and Albert Henry Gremmel. He joined the U.S. Air force in 1950 after high school graduation and attained the rank of Staff Sgt.

In 1955 he married Mary Joan Rowland after a 3 month courtship and moved to Austin, Texas where he attended the University of Texas, receiving his degree in business. Ralph pursued a career in commercial insurance, eventually founding Summa Insurance Managers in 1982.

Ralph felt strongly that education was the way out of poverty and helped many students with their tuition. With his wife Joan, he sponsored a number of impoverished children over a 40 year period through Christian Children's Fund.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Tennie, and by his brothers, Warren, Gilbert, and Robert Gremmel. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan Gremmel, his son, Alan Louis Gremmel (Deane), daughter Sally Diane Gremmel, and granddaughters Michelle Gremmel Coughlin (Cody) and Courtney Dianne Gremmel (Michow Fujishima). He also leaves behind a great granddaughter, Clara Diana Coughlin, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who meant the world to him.

A celebration of life ceremony will take place on 1:00 PM Sunday September 20, 2020 at Katy Funeral Home 23350 Kingsland blvd, Katy, TX. 77494. Followed by a catered reception in the Katy Funeral Home Event Room.
