Ron was born June 1, 1942 in Santa Monica, CA to Robert and Marybel “Polly” Crossland. He received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from UCLA and his subsequent Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physical/Organic Chemistry from USC. Ron was a long-time resident of Houston, Texas. He had a very long and successful career with Shell Oil Company and retired after many years. In the 1980’s, he and his wife, Sylvia, became avid recreational SCUBA divers and underwater photographers. They traveled the world diving in exotic areas such as Fiji, Galapagos, Papua New Guinea, and many other remote areas. They made many friends in various SCUBA and photography clubs over the years. Ron often referred to Sylvia as his soulmate, which could not have been truer. Family was very important to Ron, both the past and present. He researched the family tree back to the 1700’s. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially for holiday dinners. He was a big fan of deep-frying turkeys at Thanksgiving. Ron could fix or build most anything and had an extensive workshop in his garage. He loved to work with his hands. Ron believed strongly in the importance of education and working hard, encouraging his children to push themselves and excel in their chosen careers.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jimmy; his son, David Crossland. He leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Sylvia Crossland of Houston, Texas; brother, Steve (Jean) of Santa Barbara, California; sister, Joanne Alvarez (Alex) of Maricopa, Arizona; daughters, Lisa Bohman (Larry) of Cincinnati, OH, Becky Crossland (T.J. Harris) of Garberville, CA; stepdaughters, Pam Ruggear (Joe) of Princeton, NJ, Lynda Uren (Steve) of Richmond, TX; grandchildren, Elijah, Clare, Cooper, Ella, Zachary, Nichole, Jennifer, Tyler, and Erin; great grandchildren, Leah, Sandra, Jade, Madison, Morgan, and Liam.
The Crossland family would like to give special thanks to the Delaney at Parkway Lakes and staff in Richmond, Texas who took great care of him while it was his home.
