Ronda Ann McCullough was born on August 14, 1957, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Her family moved to Lake Jackson, Texas, when she was five years old. She lived in Houston for many years before eventually settling in Katy. She passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 18, 2024.
She was a devoted mother who was active in all of her children’s activities, including coaching Little League teams and helping organize the league. She loved playing card games and dominoes with her family, and she was always her dad’s favorite partner in cards and 42. For 20 years, she and her husband drove to Lake Jackson once a month to play poker with family and close friends.
Ronda always had a warm and welcoming smile. She enjoyed family gatherings, doting on her two grandchildren, cooking for loved ones, and will be remembered for the remarkable cook she was. Reading and camping with family were beloved pastimes, as was cheering on the Astros and Houston Texans. She was thrilled to attend the Texans’ recent playoff win.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years: Don McCullough; her three children: Chris Zarate and daughter-in-law Laura Meilander, Jason Clapper, and Shara Hazel and partner Stephanie Mayne; her two grandchildren: Milo and Finn Hazel; her father and stepmother: Chester and Peggy Robinson; her brother and sister-in-law: Eugene and Carol Robinson; her sister and brother-in-law: Tracy and Rick Yeager; her stepsister and brother-in-law: Wilynn and Ray Arnold; her niece Trisha Brown and spouse Bernabe Isais; and her niece Randa Morrison and husband Lanne. She is preceded in death by her mother, Martha Moore.
If you would like to give to charity in her honor, consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), her favored cause after her mother’s long battle with the disease.
A public memorial service for Ronda will be held on Saturday, January 27, at Katy Funeral Home (23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77494). Visitation will be at 12 noon with the service beginning at 1pm. According to her wishes, she will be cremated.
Family and friends of Ronda are invited to a reception afterwards at the family home, with details to be provided later.
