Ruth Eleanor Osborne, 91, went to be with the Lord January 3, 2018 in Katy Texas. She was born on October 16, 1926 to Peter and Clara DeLong in Lafayette, Indiana. Her parents ran a dairy farm and she loved helping her father deliver milk. She loved to tell stories of her life on the farm and how hard, yet rewarding those years were in her life. She met and married her husband of seventy one years at Purdue University. They married on February 22, 1946 and she became a devoted wife and mother. They had three sons, and one daughter.
Ruth was very involved in their lives; Cub Scout den mother, Camp Fire Girl leader, GA leader, and was a regular sponsor for any and all events. She once said that her greatest desire and accomplishment was raising her family. Once her children were grown she began working in the Tallowood Baptist preschool ministry so she could educate herself on the new preschool equipment for any future grandchildren. It was also during these years she and her husband Bill began volunteering for various missionary opportunities all over the world. They went to Malawi, Kenya, Venezuela, India, Australia, and Indonesia, to name a few places where they impacted lives for Christ. Her main job was teaching children English. Ruth loved people and loved children of all ages. She always had cookies and hamburger patties in the freezer just in case one of her children wanted to have a party at the house. She enjoyed going on choir tours and to camp Tallowood with the youth group even after her children were grown. In the last few years of Ruth’s life her biggest joy was seeing her great grandchildren. She once said that she really wanted to watch them grow up, but decided that was not possible for her old body to accomplish.
Survivors include sons, Roger Osborne and his wife Nancy, Lloyd Osborne and his wife Rebecca, Robert Osborne and his wife Christina; daughter Caroline Evans and her husband Robert. She has nine grandchildren; Patrick Osborne, Gregory Osborne and his wife Stephanie, Stephen Evans and his wife Twyla, Phillip Osborne and his wife Sims, Melody Woodward and her husband Bob, Christy Murry and her husband Trent, Timothy Osborne and his wife Jessica, Lauren Hollier and her husband David, and RJ Osborne; five great grandchildren, Dryden, Aurora, Gideon, Malachi and Joy Osborne; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William H. Osborne, her parents, her brothers, Bob, Ben and Charlie DeLong and her sisters Mary Eberle and Ann Finnegan.
