August 2 1955 - March 24 2026
On March 24th 2026, surrounded by loved ones, Terri passed peacefully into life eternal.
Terri was born in Houston Texas, but grew up in Shreveport Louisiana. Luckily, she made her way back to Houston because according to her, she was meant to marry her Madison High School sweetheart, John Miday, to whom she would have been married 52 years this November.
Terri had two sons, Jason and Jeremy, and three grandchildren, Travis, Hannah, and Alyssa. Becoming a wife, mother and gramma were the best things in life according to Terri. She was especially fond of her role as gramma and caregiver for her grandchildren when her son and daughter-in-law worked.
Before marriage, Terri worked assembling computer boards for Texas Instruments and as a reconciliation clerk for Prudential Insurance. Later, work for Terri centered around caring for her family. She worked as a secretary at her boys’ school, served as a volunteer for their various extracurricular activities, and encouraged their academic success, thus earning the title “Aggie Mom”.
Terri had a passion for helping children and adults. After her children were raised, she focused her nurturing on others and joined Sugarland Healthcare Center as the Activities Assistant. She loved providing stimulating activities for the residents, including her own mother and father. Terri had a “super power” for preparing kids for school. Not only did her boys benefit from this gift but also her grandchildren and neighbors’ children as well.
As John became interested in and riding motorcycles, Terri named their new sheltie puppy “Harley” so she could have a Harley too. Harley was loyal, obedient and very intelligent. He loved playing football alongside the TV while the Texans were on. For ten years he was Terri’s best friend, second only to John.
Terri was a dedicated gramma spending her later years attending baseball games, theatre performances, and softball games. Her granddaughters adored “Gramma Days”. Whether it was school holidays, summertime, or even sick days, Gramma would have some special activity planned such as a nature walk or craft project.
Terri was a talented baker and taught the girls to make kolaches using her Czech family recipe along with chocolate chip cookies and other candies.
Terri was a devout Catholic. She was active in parish life and the daycare at St. Thomas More Parish School, with the food pantry at St. Theresa in Sugar Land, and most recently, an original member of St. Faustina in Fulshear even before ground-breaking. She loved sharing her love of God and The Bible with her caregivers at Caydance Assisted Living.
She loved all Houston sports but especially the Astros. She had extensive angel and unicorn collections.
Terri was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Frances Newsom, her older brother Michael, and her younger sister Karen, along with her brothers-in-law Carl and Danny along with many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins.
She leaves behind her loving husband, John, older son Jason and wife Holly with their children Travis, Hannah, and Alyssa, youngest son Jeremy, brother Johnny Newsom and family including nieces Katie and Erin, brother-in-law David Warfield and family, brother-in-law Travis Miday and family, sister-in-law Rosemary and Family including three cherished nieces, Stacy, Teri, and Kelsey, and an adoring mother-in-law, Norma Hienemann.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Caydance Assisted Living and Memory Care and Bayou City Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
Celebration of Life details are pending.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday May 23rd at 10:00 am at St. Faustina Catholic Church in Fulshear, TX followed by a butterfly release.
It will be preceded by a Rosary at 9:00 am.
A private interment service will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
