In Bryan Texas, on August 14, 1952, the late Vernon and Emma J. Wright, welcomed the birth of the first of two children born to this union, Vernon Wright Jr. He was called to his heavenly home on October 18, 2015, passing away at home, with his wife at his side after a long courageous battle with cancer. He began his primary education as a child in Bryan, accepting Christ at an early age.He was baptized and joined Galilee Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas.
Vernon’s parents moved their family to Houston, Texas, where Vernon graduated from Jack Yates Senior High school. Vernon joined the US Army, at the age of 17, and after 3 years of service, he joined the US Navy being honorably discharged and receiving a National Defense Service Medal. He moved forth with his quest for education graduating from Texas Southern University, after receiving his B.S. degree in Drafting Design Engineering Technology.
Vernon’s attention to detail and drive for perfection made him a good professional fit for Marathon Oil Company, from which he retired. Full of spontaneous energy and life; he did not survive retirement ninety days and Vernon rejoined the work force, joining IHS Energy Company. He spent his entire career in the petroleum industry performing in several job capacities ranging from Draftsman, geological mapping, seismic data interpretation and database loading for international petroleum clients.
Vernon married his college sweetheart and best friend, Chandra Watkins in 1982. No children were born to this union, and they have remained team Vernon and Chandra, sharing many years of adventures, projects and unforgettable memories. Vernon loved being in the sun outdoors, and most of us know his love of horses from an early age, which evolved into horseracing and various equine activities. He easily stated that he was a horseman, and not necessarily a cowboy. Horses were just one of many interests among his love of cars, travel, and spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed life to its fullest and remained in perpetual motion even during his battle with cancer.
He will be remembered with deep respect and affection, and leaves to cherish: his wife of 33 years, Chandra Wright, Brother(Carlton Wright), Sister (Gloria Davis), Brother (Emerson Knox), ,Brother in Law(James Davis), Sister in Law (Prentiss Watkins) Nieces, (Tashi Hickman Buggs, Brittany Knox, Raquel Cormier), Nephews( Joseph Crosby, Emerson Knox Jr, Keith Buggs), Father and Mother In Law(Joseph and Georgia Watkins), loving caretaker Hazel Ford, and a host of other friends and relatives.
