She was born in Springfield, MA, on June 24, 1936, to William and Lieschen (Peters) Mueller. She grew up in Agawam and was a 1954 graduate of Agawam High School.
On October 15, 1955, Alice married Harold “Curt” Nowill, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, in Wilbraham, MA, and they shared 58 happy years of marriage before his death in December of 2013.
The Nowills moved to New Hampshire in 1970 to buy a general store. Alice worked side by side with her husband in their local Keene area businesses: Court Street Market, Riverside Grocery & Motel and Nowill’s General Store.
Mrs. Nowill was a member of the Keene Emblem Club #24, and was a very active volunteer in every church at which she was a member. She especially enjoyed working at Joan’s Food Pantry at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Chesterfield.
Mrs. Nowill ran a tight ship at home, she was a fabulous cook; known for her baking, especially her pies. She loved to entertain, to play BINGO as well as to get out on the course and play a round of golf. Whenever possible, Grammy attended every school or sporting event for her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren. She and her husband travelled all over the world, as she loved to explore new places. Her favorite saying was that the “Bags are packed… Let’s Go!”
Family was everything to Alice. For those who called her Mom, Grammy, sister, cousin or Auntie Alice, we treasure our memories and hold them dear. Our consolation is knowing that she will now be reunited with her husband, whom she missed so much.
She is survived by her children: Keith Nowill of Orford, NH, Cheri Wiley and her husband, Steve of Portland, ME and Bonnie Nowill of Keene, NH; 10 grandchildren: Daniel Nowill of Harrisville, NH, Keith Dilworth of Boise, ID, Jennifer Humphrey of Stoddard, NH, Kelly Castor of Roxbury, NH, Michelle Nowill of Miami, FL, Jesse Moore of Hinsdale, NH, Kristin Nowill of Spofford, NH, Hallie Huntley of Brattleboro, VT, Reilly Musgrave of Portland, ME and Rebecca Huntley of Keene, NH; 7 great grandchildren: Robert and Thomas Nowill, Brooke and Hannah Castor, and Kade, Jonny and Lexi Dilworth; two sisters: Betty Blanchard and her husband Ken of Argyle, NY and Shirley Candage and her husband Byron of Monson, MA; two brothers: Ernie Mueller and his wife Sandy of Glens Falls, NY and William Mueller and his wife Brooke of TN as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Harold “Curt” Nowill and a sister Marion Welsh.
