He was born March 26, 1921, the son of Lorenzo and Clotilda (Volta) Montrone. He was a 1940 graduate of Keene High School and went on to attend the University of New Hampshire and Keene Teachers School, which is now Keene State College, where he received a degree in Education. When he was a student at KSC there were only 5 male students.
For many years he worked at the Keene Middle School teaching industrial arts. He was very involved with the education of the children and felt that it was important to let them do things on their own. After nearly 32 years of teaching, he said that it was the students that kept him young. He helped them put together sets for their school shows and theatre productions. He truly enjoyed his work, and he taught more than the lessons of wood working and building, he taught them life lessons and the value of friendship. Many of his students and those who attended school while he was a teacher there still remember him today.
He proudly served our country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. On July 9, 1945 he married the love of his life, Evelyn Gove, and the two of them spent 67 years together.
“Angy”, as he was known to his friends, loved to spend time with his family He was a master craftsman and built from the ground up two homes where he lived with his family in Troy initially and then also in Keene on Queens Road. He was a very compassionate and caring person, who knew the value of a hard days work and who appreciated the small things in life.
He is survived by his wife: Evelyn Montrone of Keene, NH, two sons: William Montrone and his wife Sandra of CT and Dale Montrone and his wife Rebecca (Roentsch) of Stoddard, NH., two grandchildren: Tyler Montrone of Quincy, MA and Krista Montrone of Philadelphia, PA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
