Arthur "Chip" E. O'Neil Jr.

He was born on December 7, 1935 in Keene, NH, son of the late Lillian (Mooney) and Arthur O’Neil, Sr. He attended area schools, graduating from Keene High School and Keene State College where he received a Bachelors in Education.

Meeting his high school sweetheart Marjorie Holbrook at age 16, they married on June 22, 1957 and recently celebrated their 67th anniversary before Marge’s passing in July.

Chip had been Sales Supervisor at Texaco Inc. in East Hartford, CT and Burlington VT, retiring in his career from Cheshire Oil Company as Vice President in May 2000. A truly involved community member, Chip was the first Recreation Director for the City of Keene in 1959. He served as Member and President of the Keene Board of Education, Energy Commissioner of Keene, Director and President of Keene Chamber of Commerce, Director and President of the Keene Country Club where he was a lifelong member and contributed to other multiple boards and committees as well.

Chip was a loving and fun father and husband. Outside of being a devoted family man, he loved playing bridge, and was an avid New England sports teams enthusiast. His happy place was always playing golf with his friends at KCC.

Chip will be dearly missed by his three children: Jeffrey O’Neil and his longtime companion Brenda Shuman, of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kevin O’Neil and his wife Susan of Keene, NH, and Karen Haley and her husband Michael of San Antonio FL; grandchildren: Bryan, Jennifer, Conor, Molly, Carson, Jacob, and Nicole; many great grandchildren; brother: Timothy O’Neil and his wife Nancy of Wilbraham, MA; sister-in-law: June O’Neil of Salem, NH; as well as several extended family members and numerous friends.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, Chip is predeceased by his grandson Sean O’Neil and his brother Michael O’Neil.

In keeping with Chip’s wishes, there will be no public services.
