
He was born in Marlborough, NH, November 29, 1936, the son of Arthur David and Gertrude Dorissa (Frechette) Kearney. He grew up in Keene, attending local schools and was a 1954 graduate of Keene High School.
Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served from 1955 until 1959, during the Korean War.
Mr. Kearney worked for 37 years in project engineering as a machine designer for Markem Corporation in Keene. His true ingenuity was evident by his record of having held seven patents for designing different types of label and marking machines.
He was a member of the American Legion Gordon Bissell Keene Post #4 and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 478. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Bernard Church in Keene.
Mr. Kearney enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking. He enjoyed talking with people, and he especially enjoyed his daily cup of coffee with friends at Lindy’s Diner in Keene.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria A. (Caron) Kearney of Keene; two sons, Derek A. Kearney of Swanzey Center, NH and Steven D. Kearney of Winchester, NH; a granddaughter, Tara Kearney of Swanzey Center; three sisters, Janet Pregent and her husband, Richard, of Keene, Mary Graves and her husband, David, of Beckett, MA, Gertrude “Trudy” Gallup and her husband, Joseph, of Matthews, NC; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, April 27, 2015 at 11:00AM in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene. Burial will follow in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Kearney’s memory to the Salvation Army, 15 Roxbury Plaza, Keene, NH 03431.
The Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
