Born in Lebanon, NH on January 25, 1957, the son of Kenneth and Joyce (Lahaye) Birch, Ed left on his motorcycle for better roads on Sunday, June 3rd.
He leaves behind a lot of heavy hearts – his mother Joyce of Marlborough, brother Roger and his wife Kathleen of Keene, nephews and nieces, Samuel W. Clapp, Jonathan Miles McKenna, Bethany R. McKenna, Carrie J. McKenna, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and his “partner in crime”, Kate St. Pierre.
Ed terrorized the teachers of Marlboro schools and graduated in 1975. He then went on to work at Capitol Electric and Plumbing for 22 years and for the past 10 years, worked for C&S Wholesale Grocers.
Ed had a strong sense of community and had helped to raise money for several local non-profits, including Joy’s Network and the Community Kitchen by organizing motorcycle poker runs. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Marlborough and was a member of a local van club in his earlier years. He played a formidable game of darts.
His smile and big heart will remain with all whose lives he touched. He leaves us now with the wind in his face on the road less traveled, doing what he loved most but will forever be in our rearview mirrors.
Calling hours will be held at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH on Friday, June 29th from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. On Saturday, June 30th, we ask that all who ride motorcycles (and even those that don’t) escort Ed home to Lebanon. We will be interring his ashes at Valley Cemetery, 258 Mascoma Street, Lebanon, NH. We will gather at the C&S parking lot, 7 Corporate Drive, Keene off of Route 12 at 11:00 am to begin the ride up north.
Please wear your favorite Harley or event t-shirt on Friday and Saturday, as Ed would have wanted it this way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Joy’s Network, 463 Washington St, Keene, NH 03431 or the Marlborough Fire Company, c/o Chief John Manning, PO Box 487, Marlborough, NH 03455.
