Elizabeth L. "Betsy" Haley, 64, of Stoddard, passed away September 1, 2025, at her home, after fighting a Stage IV lung cancer diagnosis. Betsy was a hardworking, caring, and loving wife, daughter, and mother.
Betsy was born in the City of Orange, NJ, on August 6, 1961, the daughter of Robert and Patricia (MacFarlane) Martenis. She was a graduate of Randolph High School and completed a nursing program at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, NJ, where she worked in the Orthopedics Department.
Betsy met her husband, Robert, in 1989, and they relocated to New Hampshire in 1992. Her parents had moved to Marlow a few years prior, where they used to vacation during the summers. Bob and Betsy married in 1994 at the Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, New Hampshire, and enjoyed 31 years of marriage before her passing.
Following the births of her daughters, Natalie, in 1995, and Emily, in 1996, Betsy stayed at home with her children until they started elementary school. When her daughters attended James M. Faulkner Elementary School in Stoddard, she would join the staff serving lunches and working as a part-time secretary, beginning a long career in the SAU24 and SAU29 school districts in Food Service and Student Support Services. Betsy last worked at the John D. Perkins Academy in Marlow during the 2024-2025 school year. She loved seeing the bison and Scottish Highlander cows at the Pitcher Mountain Farm on her trip to work.
Betsy loved gardening, enlisting the help of her daughters in planting flowers and vegetables during the spring and summer. Her prized crop was zucchini, which she would use to make loaves of zucchini bread for friends and family during the holidays. In addition to gardening, Betsy was an avid reader, puzzler, and enjoyer of horror movies. Her biggest hobby was cross-stitching, where she spent hours each day working on projects for friends and family. She loved cats, especially her late cat, Tibbs, and her cat, Cinderella (Cindy).
Betsy is survived by her husband Robert of Stoddard, daughters Natalie and Emily of Keene, parents-in-law Robert and Alanna Haley of Cocoa Beach, FL, and sister-in-law Sharon Callahan of Charlotte, NC.
The Haley family are extremely grateful for the staff at Cheshire Medical Center and Home Healthcare, Hospice & Community Services for navigating the diagnosis, treatment, and hospice services she received.
Calling hours for Betsy will be on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH. All are welcome to attend.
