

He was born in Brattleboro, VT on October 18, 1929, the son of Morton A. and Elsie (Reome) Davis. He grew up in the area and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School in 1945. After high school, he worked for the Brattleboro Cotton Mill for several years.
He then entered the US Army and served as a radio operator in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Mr. Davis married Helen M. Rhoades in Putney, VT on October 20th, 1956.
After serving in the Army, he worked for Merriam Graves in Greenfield, MA and then for Mort’s Well Drilling of Spofford until he retired in 1990.
Mr. Davis was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 1034, Carl M. Dessaint Post in Brattleboro and also a member of the American Legion, Gordon Bissell Post #4 in Keene.
In his spare time, he enjoyed welding, hunting and fishing. Time with loved ones and friends was especially important. He was affectionately called “Buddy” by his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen M. Davis of Spofford; his sons Elmer Davis, Jr., and wife Elaine, of Athens, VT, Patrick Davis, and wife Martha, of Westmoreland, and Frank Davis, and wife Carlene of Wardsboro, VT; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters Ella Barber of Freeport, FL, Sister Shirley Davis of Rutland and Bette Parent of Spofford; sisters-in-law June Davis of Wardsboro, VT, Mary Davis of Spofford, and Cheryl Davis of Roanoke, VA; and many nieces and nephews. His infant daughter Jacqueline, brothers Kenneth, Mortan, Paul, Robert and Ervin Davis, sister Elsie Davis and brother-in-law Raymond Parent all died earlier.
His family wishes to thank the staff of the White River Junction VA Medical Center and the staff and volunteers of Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Mr. Davis and his family during this difficult time.
Calling hours for Mr. Davis will be held on Thursday, May 14th, 2015, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH. Burial will be private.
