
She was born in Harvard, MA, on January 31, 1923, the daughter of William H. and Marie J. (LaCompte) St. John. She was one of 10 children. Mrs. Wood grew up in Harvard and graduated from Bromfield High School.
Mrs. Wood worked for Blakes Industries in Clinton, MA for eight years. She worked for her husband’s business, R.L. Wood Plumbing and Heating for the next 35 years as secretary and book keeper.
She was a member of St. Theresa, The Little Flower Church in Harvard, MA for many years.
She enjoyed swimming, boating and spending summers at the family cottage in Stoddard.
Mrs. Wood is remembered by her family as kind and generous, but also as no nonsense, well-grounded and not a person who minced her words. Her favorite expressions included, “while you’re here…” and “you’re younger than I am…”.
She is survived by her brother William St. John of Island Pond, VT; her sisters Helen Wood of Ninety Six, SC, Marie Conroy of Suffolk, VA, Yvonne Hendrickson of Washington, NH, and Pauline Savaria of Warwick, RI; her grandchildren Adam L. Wood of Raymond, NH and Matthew Wood of Claremont, NH; and two great grandchildren.
Calling hours for Mrs. Wood will be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2015, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH. Burial will be held in the spring in the family lot at the Bellvue Cemetery in Harvard, MA.
