
He was born on May 2, 1981, in Keene, the son of James H. & Patricia (McIlvain) Hastings. He grew up in Harrisville, attending Wells Memorial School in Harrisville and Keene Middle School. He graduated from Keene High School in 1999.
Mr. Hastings went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Turf Management and Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
He was the Superintendent of the Pine Meadows Golf Course in Lexington, MA for 7 years. He played an active role in preparing the 2001 US Open in Bethpage Long Island.
Mr. Hastings was a member of the American Golf Association and also the Alpha Tau Gamma Fraternity.
He was a past member of the KHS Golf Team and also loved playing baseball throughout his life.
Mr. Hastings was an avid reader, but his greatest joy was the time he spent playing with his son, Noah.
He will be remembered by his friends and family as hardworking, kind, compassionate and most of all, a devoted father.
Mr. Hastings is survived by his wife Valarie Hastings and his son Noah James Hastings; his father and mother, Jim and Pat Hastings, of Harrisville, NH; sister Jenna Hastings of Dover, NH; maternal grandmother, Esther McIlvain of Keene; his friend Goldie the dog; and several aunts and uncles.
Services for Jim will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Commmunity Church of Harrisville and Chesham in Chesham. Friends are invited. Calling hours will be held in the church one hour prior to the start of the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James memory to The Noah Hastings Trust Fund, c/o Tri-Lakes Federal Credit Union, 197 Broadway, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
