Her parents, Theodore W. and Elizabeth A. (Hogel) Kalb, welcomed their daughter into the world on December 18, 1934, in Hempstead, Long Island, NY. At the age of 16, her family moved from their home in Westbury, Long Island, NY to Keene, settling in the family home on the Jordan Road where Jean resided for many years, raising her own family there as well.
A hard worker, Jean was an accomplished solderer, working for many years with the American Optical Company in Keene and until her retirement, with Electronics Aid in Marlborough, NH.
Family was her whole life, maintaining a very close relationship, and as caregiver for her mother and father until their passing. Early on, Jean started a family tradition of Sunday night dinners, something she looked forward too, being with her family, but secretly, I think she also enjoyed her weekly "Black Russian", something she savored during her conversations with family prior to dinner. This tradition continued with the last family dinner being two weeks before her passing.
She loved going on family vacations with her children after they were grown and she had now became a grandmother. This simple pleasurer brought her such great joy. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she would begin planning for the family gathering when the New Year was rung in.
Jean overcame many obstacles in her life, in both body and mind. She was strong-willed, and never gave up when life turned an evil eye. She was generous in heart, kind and caring, and to a fault, she always put the needs of others before herself.
Her family will miss her dearly for the many wonderful attributes she instilled down through the generations. She leaves behind her son, Robert D. Trudelle and his wife, Donna, of Keene; her daughter, Susan A. Simonds and her husband, Brian, of Swanzey, NH; her grandchildren, Matthew Trudelle and his wife, Rebecca, Jennifer Simonds and her partner, Arline Shea, Christopher Simonds and his wife, Aubrey, Sarah Trudelle and her partner, Mike Simpson, Julie Trudelle and her partner, Mike Cole, Heather Bogart and her fiancé, Marquis Parsons, Joseph King and his partner, Kirstin Pieschke; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her three sisters, Janet Simmons, Joan Read, and Jane Kalb who died at birth, predeceased her.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Jean’s many friends at Park Place who enjoyed her "open door". Your visits and friendship meant the world to her.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11:30am in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene. Burial with committal prayers will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
