

He was born in Keene, on January 26, 1944, to John G. and Beatrice M. (Emery) Powers, Jr. He grew up in Keene, attending local schools up through High School when he moved to England after his sophomore year. While in England he attended the Welwyn Garden City Technical College. He was a member of the All England Basketball Team in 1961 through 1962. After graduation he moved back to Keene where he remained a lifelong area resident.
He married Margaret Smith in a service in Keene on May 21, 1988. They were married for 21 years before her death in 2009.
Mr. Powers pitched for various Greater Keene Men's Softball teams, and enjoyed playing guitar, relaxing at Lake Spofford, and rooting for New England sports teams.
He is survived by his daughter: Devon S. Smith and her husband Aaron, of South Hadley, MA; a son: Joshua Powers and his wife Agnès , of Reston, VA; a step son: Todd Nelson of Oakland Park, FL; a sister: Jean Chesser and her husband, Keith, of Wichita, KS; as well as four grandchildren: Allison Rougemont and Amelia Smith both of South Hadley and Nolan and Louis Powers, both of Reston, VA; and two nieces Danielle Freund of Goddard, KS and Kathleen Johnson of Wichita, KS.
A Graveside service, celebrating the life of Mr. Power’s, will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the family lot in Monadnock View
Cemetery. Per Mr. Power’s request, there will be no public calling hours.
