

Kenneth E. Briggs, 77, of Richmond, died Saturday evening, in the comfort of his home, with his wife, son Bill, beloved dog Sparky and Doug, a member of the Cornerstone Ministery at his side, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Upton, MA, on July 4, 1934, the youngest child of Ralph & Blanche (Styles) Briggs and lived there into his adult years.
He was a volunteer with the Upton Police Dispatch for five years and the Upton Fire Department for 15 years. He worked for Bay State Abrasive in Westboro, MA. for 43 years. Most recently he worked for N.E. Traffic Control.
He met Christine E. (Smith) Layman in 1980 and they have been together ever since.
Early in his life he would go ‘coon hunting with his father, he enjoyed camping, volunteered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and with the Rescue Squad. He relaxed with word search puzzles and was an avid Red Sox Fan. Recently, he became a member of the Cornerstone Ministries and enjoyed time spent at the Food Tent they sponsor during Motorcycle Week.
He is survived by his wife: Christine E. Layman of Richmond; his daughter: Linda Phillips and her husband Jerry of Springfield, OR.; two sons: David Briggs and Donald Briggs and his wife Linda all of Uxbridge, MA.; step sons: William Layman of Guilford, NH and Stephen Layman of Franklin, MA. and a step daughter: Wendy Bertram of Franklin, MA. as well as 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by: daughter: Kathy Lazart; step-son: Thomas Layman; step son-in-law Eric Bertram as well as his siblings: Ralph Briggs, Jr., George Briggs, Blanche Briggs and Dolly Phipps.
Calling Hours will be held Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro St, Keene. Services will be on Thursday at 10:00, also at Fletchers. Burial will follow in the Earl Howard Section of South Cemetery, Richmond, NH.
