Her parents, Charles D. and Lucile M. (Birmingham) Fassett welcomed their daughter into the world on September 3, 1934, in Worcester, MA. Marion resided in several Massachusetts towns before settling in Greenfield, MA where she was a 1952 graduate of Greenfield High School.
She then attended a local secretarial school before moving to Alexandria, VA, to live with her sister Helen while they both worked for the former Capital Airlines. From 1954-1956, she enjoyed working as a space controller and travelling with the airline to various domestic destinations.
After moving almost constantly as a child, Marion was pleased to reside in just three locations in NH between 1956 and 2022: Winchester, Richmond, and Keene. She loved to sew and was a seamstress for many years, making dresses and offering alterations for both men and women. In addition, she made costumes for her children, and even made the bridesmaid dresses for her daughter’s wedding.
At an early age, she took violin lessons. Marion loved music, absolutely anything by John Williams and The Boston Pops, musical theater, and a wide range of classical and sacred music. Most of all, she enjoyed hearing her two sons play professionally, and would travel whenever she could to attend their concerts.
She had a passion for writing and took a course for writing short stories and articles for children’s magazines. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, and The Mayflower Society.
Her faith was very important to her. Her church life began in the second grade in Leominster, MA, and she attended Sunday school there until her family moved to Winchester, NH. She was always active in many local churches in Cheshire County, including serving on committees, teaching Sunday school, leading youth groups, attending bible studies, and conducting both junior and senior choirs over the years. Her favorite church activity was singing in the choir. Marion was a longtime member of the Richmond Community Church, and sang in the choir at the Fitzwilliam Community Church for many years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Keene, singing in the church choir, and also attended the First Baptist Church of Keene.
She worked for over 22 years as the secretary at the United Church of Christ in Keene. She later worked at the former Joann Fabrics Store in Keene, and Powers, Smith and Associates in Keene from 2013-2019.
She will be missed by many, especially her children, her son, Allan B. Conway of Vernon, CT, daughter, Barbara C. Paquin of Lebanon, MO, son, Donald F. Holm, Jr. of Malden, MA; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her husband of 35 years, Donald F. Holm, Sr., passed away on July 28, 2004. A sister, Helen Chouinard, predeceased her in 2023.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Richmond Community United Methodist Church, 11 Fitzwilliam Road, Richmond. Burial will be in the spring in the Evergreen Cemetery, Winchester.
