

Robert W. Thayer, Jr., 71 of Valley Road. East Sullivan, NH died at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, in West Roxbury, MA on Thursday, December 13, 2012 following a period of declining health.
He was born in East Sullivan, NH on September 4, 1941 the son of Robert W. and Elise (Johnson) Thayer, Sr.
He has been a resident of Sullivan, NH for most of his life and attended local schools.
He received an honorable discharge after served two tours of duty as an ammunition specialist with US Army 576th Ordinance Company from 1962 to 1965. He was employed as a machinist at the Monadnock Paper Mills for many years. He was a member of the Gordon-Bissell Post 4 American Legion in Keene and the DAV Chapter 21. He was a volunteer at the Keene Community Kitchen and was very active member at the Keene Senior Citizens Center. Spending time with his family was very important and he looked forward to their visits.
He is survived by two sons; Robert W. Thayer, III of Arizona and Eric Thayer and his wife Judith of Altus, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; Melissa Thayer, Tasha Thayer, and Hailey Thayer; one great-granddaughter Hayden Thayer; and a brother Warren Thayer of San Francisco, CA.
A memorial service will be held in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Richard Wallace will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sullivan Center Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
