Roger B Champagne

He was born in Moosup, CT, on February 21, 1928, the son of Eudore and Dora (Grenier) Champagne. He attended area schools and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1945.

After High School he enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines where he served during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Connecticut and went to work for Sears Roebuck and Co. In 1973 he was transferred to the Sears in Keene and worked there till 1993. He then worked for Hilsons Home Center. During this time, he and his family lived at and operated the Champagne’s Christmas Trees Inn and Champagne’s Country Store in Marlow. Also during and after this time he and his wife owned and operated Champagne’s Stores in both downtown Walpole and Rindge, NH. Later he worked for Cocoplum Appliance in Brattleboro, VT. He and his family moved from Marlow to Spofford in 1985 when they sold the Inn to PC Connection for their corporate offices.

He married Marie M. (Mathurin) Chabot in a service at the Inn on July 7, 1977. They recently celebrated their 35th Anniversary.

Mr. Champagne enjoyed outdoor activities around his yard such as gardening and landscaping, and time spent fishing with his son.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marie M. Champagne of Spofford; his children: Ely Chabot and his wife Carol of Keene, Charlene Fournier and her husband Dean of Florida, Charlene Gross and her husband Edward of Keene, Charles Champagne and his wife Doreen of CT., and Raymond Chabot and his wife Julie of Keene; as well as 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers: Gerard Champagne, Roland “Champ” Champagne, Clement Champagne and his sister Theresa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church, 33 Arch St., Keene on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lower Main St / Route 12 South, Keene. Calling Hours will be on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Funeral Home.
