Heaven gained a rare gem this month. Selina Fowler, 91, of Marlborough, NH, passed away on March 1, 2025, surrounded by family. Selina was born on August 11, 1933, in Marlborough, NH, the daughter of Lida Wilhelmina “Willie” (Stoodley) and Ernest F. Thoin.
Selina was a graduate of Marlborough High School where she played basketball. In her earlier years, she was a “candy striper” and nurse’s aide at Elliot Community Hospital in Keene, NH.
In 1964, Selina met Jim Fowler, and they enjoyed a happy and fulfilled 56 years of marriage. They enjoyed many memories together; a favorite being camping including beaches with their children. Of utmost importance to Selina was being with her family. During the 60’s they lived in Texas for almost 6 years. The family moved to Virginia in the mid 70’s and spent many years living in both Virginia and New Hampshire. Selina’s interests included playing cards with family and friends, listening to country music, watching westerns, crafts – decoupage, hooked rugs, sewing (made her children’s clothes) and love of flowers. Selina ran a tight household and often referred to as “Sarge”. Selina was generous, strong-minded, and spicy, not being one to hold back when she had an opinion, and she always had an opinion.
Most of Selina’s life was traveling to Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Shows across the country, where she created exquisite display cases of Jim’s wire-wrapped jewelry. One of the perks of being Jim’s wife, was wearing beautifully crafted jewelry that reflected Selina’s classiness. She enjoyed spending time with fellow dealers and customers. Selina was an avid sports fan and enjoyed trips to Europe and Hawaii with her sister, Vivian.
Family and friends will miss Selina. Selina is survived by her children Jay Fowler (Suzy) of Converse, TX, Ernie Fowler of Marlborough, NH, David Fowler (Jane) of Lawrenceville PA, Georgina Fowler (Best friend Cheryl) of Richmond, VA and Julie Moore of Goochland, VA; grandchildren: Shannon, Salim, AJ, Selina, Brenda, Shawnette, and Rachel; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Selina was predeceased by her husband, Jim Fowler, her parents, Wilhelmina and Ernest Thoin, her son, Thomas Fowler, siblings, Jeanette Spring, Mildred Beauregard, Blanche Bouford, Vivian Trombley and Donald Thoin and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Lisa Profetto (MSN, ARNP) and her medical team at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock-Keene, Home Healthcare Hospice & Community Services-Keene and Sondra Everard, cousin, and caregiver, for their compassion and care of Selina.
In keeping with Selina’s wishes, there will be no public service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Selina Fowler’s name to the Marlborough Garden Club at PO Box 385, Marlborough, NH, 03455.
