The family patriarch, William H. “Bill” Chabot, Jr. 97, a lifelong resident of Keene, NH, passed away peacefully, surrounded in the love of his family, on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, NH, following a period of declining health.
Bill was born October 7, 1921 in Keene, NH, the son of Artermise “Clara” (Gauthier) and William H. Chabot, Sr. He attended St. Joseph Regional School and was a 1940 graduate of Keene High School.
Bill proudly served his country as World War II Army veteran and was a longtime member of the Gordon Bissell American Legion Keene Post #4.
On March 14, 1944, while on leave from the Army, he married the love of his life, Rose DiBernardo. They were blessed with 69 years of married before she passed away in 2013.
Following his military obligations, Bill worked as a machinist for 45 years with the former Kingsbury Corporation in Keene. When not hard at work, his favorite pastime was tinkering on cars, a skill he learned while serving in the military. He also enjoyed skiing, riding motorcycles, and spending quality time with his daughters, grandchildren and extended family. Bill was an avid NASCAR fan.
Bill especially enjoyed long Sunday rides with his wife, Rose, ending the day with a wonderful dinner together.
We will fondly remember Dad and Grampa for is dedication to family and friends, his thoughtfulness and kindness to anyone he met, his endless support to family and loved ones and his great sense of humor.
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his two daughters, Diana L. Wright and her husband, William, of Keene and Dorothy A. Keating and her husband, Kenneth, of Antrim, NH and North Carolina; six grandchildren, Jonathan Metivier and his wife, Susan, of Middletown, CT, Denise Roderick and her husband, William, of Keene, Jennifer Metivier and her fiancé, Paulo Gonzalez, of Marlborough, NH, Rebecca Weston and her husband, Paul, of Jericho, VT, Kristen Coates, and her husband, Kevin, of Hebron, NH, Allison Keating of Weare, NH; five great-grandchildren, Kayla Harris, Lindsay Roderick, William Coates, Julia Briggaman, Kiera Briggaman; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Bill was predeceased by two brothers, Francis Chabot and Edmund Chabot; and two sisters, Sister Pauline “Dora” Chabot of the Sisters of Mercy, and Pauline Chabot.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:30AM in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene. Burial with military honors will be in the spring in St. Joseph Cemetery, Keene. There are no public calling hours.
