Weldon was born on June 19, 1929 southwest of Southland, Texas to Eli Carroll and Nellie Hadley Wynn. After living briefly in San Diego, California his family settled down in Morton, Texas where he graduated from Morton High School in 1947. After graduation, he farmed for three years before being drafted into the military where he served in the Army until 1952. Weldon was an MP in Germany.
After returning from his deployment in Germany, Weldon met and married his first love, Betty June Rhyne on October 23, 1953. They built a wonderful life together that included raising their three children, farming and traveling through 46 states and Canada in their semi-truck and actively serving as members of their church. They lived a full life together for over 55 years until Betty’s unexpected death on January 29, 2009.
In 2012, Weldon moved to Keller, Texas to be closer to his three children. After making many new friends in his senior community, he found love again and married Diana Shepherd on June 22, 2014.
Weldon, who was often called a “gentle giant”, taught us all many lessons in life. A few that stand out include being optimistic (a must for a farmer), always practice a strong work ethic (he didn’t fully retire until he was 82), practice patience and give grace, share your stories, especially if they end in a good laugh, treat all animals with kindness, stand up for what you believe in, pray often, giving is more important than receiving and cowboy boots work for any occasion!
His life was a living example of two of his favorite bible passages, Psalm 23 and Romans 8:38-39. Church was a huge part of Weldon’s faith journey. He served on multiple committees at the First UMC in Morton, belonged to the City Point UMC in North Richland Hills and was President of the Fidelis Sunday School class.
Weldon is survived by his wife, Diana Shepherd Wynn, his three children and their spouses, Dr. Max and Sharon Wynn, Joe and Kelly Wynn and Kandi and Eric Gongora; stepdaughter, Ashley Sosa; grandchildren, Dr. April Reif and her spouse Dr. Randy Reif, Alexander Gongora, Andrew Gongora, Parker Wynn and Rogan Wynn; step-grandchildren Marley Sosa and Brady Sosa and one great-granddaughter, Autumn Reif. He also leaves behind two sweet cats, Whitey and Ms. Kitty, who enjoyed spending time in his bedroom window on sunny days.
Please join us celebrating his life Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at City Point United Methodist Church 7301 Glenview Drive, North Richland Hills, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial fund at City Point UMC in North Richland Hills, Texas.
