In loving memory of Charles Ray (Chuck) Templin of Keller, Texas who went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Carol Underwood Templin, his daughter Karen and her husband Fred Wirz of Yucaipa,California, his son Charles Randall Templin of Victoria, Texas, three grandchildren Kathryn Wirz of San Diego, California, Matthew Wirz of Redlands, California and Patrick Wirz of Redlands, California. He was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Templin, wife Retha Templin and parents Blaine and Venice Templin of California.
Chuck was a model railroad enthusiast and was a member of Cowtown Model R/R Club. He was a former member of Round House Gang R/R Club in San Bernardino, California. He also was employed by Six Flags as a train conductor after he retired. He enjoyed working on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad that ran between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado. Chuck also operated the Tarantula Train from Grapevine to Fort Worth.
Chuck enjoyed sailing and after his retirement continued his interest in sailing by captaining his own sailboat at Grapevine Lake.
Chuck was a Master Mason for more thanfifty years. He was attended Smithfield Masonic Lodge.
Charles Ray Templin was born on August 24, 1934 in Chelsea, Oklahoma. In l936 he and his family headed down Route 66 to California. He then spent the rest of his youth until l947 running back and forth on this Highway. When people asked him where he was born and raised he would tell them on Route 66.
He finally settled in Stockton, California where he graduated from high school in l952. He then proceeded to N.O.T.S. (Naval Ordnance Test Station) at China Lake, California where he had a brief career as a munitions worker making rockets for the Korean War and then a power lineman apprentice.
In 1954 he was accepted to the Aviation Cadet Program in the U. S. Air Force where he earned his wings as a pilot and was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force. His first duty station was Barksdale AFB in Louisiana where he met his first wife, Retha
Cone. He spent the next 30 years moving 26 times with the Air Force.
Lieutenant Colonel Charles R. Templin retired from the Air Force on December 4, 1983 from Norton AFB, California. From there he went to work for the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) in Redondo Beach, California as an Air Carrier Inspector eventually winding up in Fort Worth, Texas where he made his final retirement from the FAA in l990.
