
John Derek Anderson was born in Skagway, Alaska on September 1, 1950, the son of Clarence Lee "Barney" Anderson and Emma Lucille Stephenson. He passed away on December 2, 2025 in Keller, Texas. He attended school in Cordova, Alaska until he moved to Anchorage, graduating from West Anchorage High School in 1968.
John spent the majority of his life working in the transportation industry. He worked as a driver, dispatcher, and an account manager for the following companies: Movers Inc, Northern Air Freight, Husky Oil NPR, Airland Transport, Consolidated Freightways, and Yellow/Roadway Corp.
A sports enthusiast, John was an avid Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed playing racquetball, softball, basketball, and downhill skiing. His hobbies included boating, playing ping pong, reading westerns and war novels, target shooting, riding motorcycles or ATV's, playing cards, and traveling. His most memorable trip was when he took his mother to Australia. John was a talented joke teller, whistler, harmonica player, and Louis Armstrong impersonator.
John is survived by his daughter & son-in-law: Janene Anderson-Walton and Steven Walton; granddaughters: Rachel Schoenborn-Varela (Tristan) and Allison Schoenborn-Lauwers (Colton); great-grandchildren: Emery Valera, Isla Daly, Sutton Varela, and Luka Lauwers; siblings: Mike Anderson, and Jim Anderson (Carol); former wives: Carolyn Jean Peterson-Anderson and Patricia Jean Shute; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Patricia Anderson-Poppe and Suellen Anderson-Hahn.
