

Nina Mae Coon passed away on August 30, 2022, at the age of 95. She was born in Dallas, Texas to Leslie and Grace York. She was raised by her grandparents in Burleson, Texas, and went to California at the age of thirteen to live with her mother.
She graduated from high school in Pasadena, California, and attended college at Oklahoma State University, where she met her future husband, Wade Parkey. They were married in Dallas on June 5, 1948, and immediately left for Utah, where they attended Utah State University. Nina received her bachelor’s degree from Utah State.
She has lived in several states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Utah, Idaho, and California. Her careers consisted of working as a legal secretary, teacher, realtor, and as a consultant, and director with Mary Kay Cosmetics for thirty-six years. She was a past president of the State of California Grandmothers Club.
Nina married Harold Coon on April 7, 1984. They enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling, and entertaining friends and family.
She moved to Texas from California in 2009 to be near her daughter. She joined White’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake, where she attended the Wesley Sunday School Class and the Classic Adult Fellowship. She went to both the Southlake and Keller Senior Centers, where she enjoyed playing cards, and games, and attended writing classes, where she wrote many creative stories. She met many wonderful friends at both the Church and Senior Centers. Her greatest treasures were her many friends and her family.
Nina is preceded in death by the father of her children, Wade Parkey, her husband Harold Coon, her son Stanley Parkey and her brother Gene York.
She is survived by her son Ronald Parkey of Oakhurst, California, her son Keith Parkey and his wife Julie of Madera, California, her daughter Judith Watts and her husband David of Keller, Texas, her sister Patricia Hemingway and her husband Robert of Monrovia, California, and her seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Nina will be held Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Keller's Old Town Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 220 Keller Parkway, Keller, TX 76248. A funeral service will occur Friday, September 16, 2022, at 10:00 AM at White's Chapel United Methodist Church, Southlake, TX. A committal service will occur Friday, September 16, 2022, at 12:30 PM at Rolling Oaks Cemetery, 400 Freeport Pkwy, Coppell, TX.
