Morrie passed peacefully at Central Okanagan Hospice House and is survived by his wife Caroline, daughters Kate Young and Pat Bell and sons Tony and Terry Lake. He had eleven grandchildren and an ever growing number of great grandchildren, all of whom loved him very much.
Morrie served in the Royal Air Force in Great Britain for 19 years including UN Peacekeeping duties in the Middle East. In 1967, with only a meagre amount of cash in his pocket, he emigrated to Canada creating a world of opportunity for his family. Morrie took a job with Brenda Mines in Peachland in 1972 and called the Central Okanagan his home since that time. He served as President of the Ogden Legion in Calgary and the Peachland Legion and was a one term wonder on Peachland Council.
While he occasionally left one or two kids waiting in a Legion parking lot, he was sure to bring a bag of chips and a Coke to make the wait enjoyable. Morrie loved nothing more than being around his family and friends playing cards, sharing a drink and swapping stories.
Morrie’s first wife Mary passed in 2004 but he was fortunate to find Caroline in his later years who provided love, joy and companionship. He was also very lucky to have Ray and Linda McCall in his life as they were part of his extended family and support system. Morrie was not one who expected or wanted an elaborate service but he will always be in our hearts.
