Elsa Joyce Gardner

Born Feb. 27, 2014 in Kelowna to Charlotte (Maitland) and Carl H. Bening. Passed away Aug. 16, 2021 at the age of 97 years.

El was predeceased by husband Arvid in 1975; son John in 1999; granddaughter Michelle in 2008 and by sisters Dorothea and Marian. She is survived by son Jim (Jeanne), grandsons John, Jim and Clayton (Jessicca) as well as five great-grandchildren. “Nan” was very proud of her family and was always ready with a sympathetic ear and wise words.

El had many good friends over the years, some going back to childhood in Belgo and East Kelowna.

As well as working their orchard with Arv she worked for a time at the packing house and at Crown Zellerback. El was an avid bowler, she also golfed with friends. Fishing trips and picnics with family or friends were good passtimes for her as she loved the outdoors. She also found she had quite the artistic talent and her family and friends are fortunate to have her paintings adorning their homes.

When her health declined and she had to move from her home of over 60 years she was devastated, but soon adapted to life at Sun Pointe and made new friends of whom she was very fond.

A small service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations to the BCSPCA would be gratefully accepted.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Sun Pointe and Cottonwoods for making El’s final months so much easier.
