Frank Allan Jones (Dad), 87, born in Vancouver, BC, passed away in his sleep in Oliver, BC on December 6, 2020. He is survived by three of his children, Dave (Elise), Catherine (Bill), and Steve (Monika), his sister Bernice, several nieces and nephews, and 20 grandchildren and great-children.
Predeceased by his sons Frank and Ken and his grandson Derek, Dad also recently lost the love of his life, Diane, who died suddenly in May. And that was just too much for him. For 7 months, he stuck it out on his own, but life was just no fun for him without Mom.
Dad lived a long and adventurous life. He was a butcher, a banker, and a teacher. He dropped out of high school to take care of his family and eventually returned to school to earn his BA. He was also a Third Order Franciscan, whose values guided his life.
Dad was a wonderful storyteller. He loved to fold his arms over his belly and settle into a good long yarn, usually about Vancouver history, the Anglican church, or some long gone relatives. Dad was also the master (maybe even the creator) of the corny Dad joke and his sense of humour kept all of us groaning and laughing, even during the rough patches.
His spirit will live on as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren learn about the Hollow Statues that once populated Vancouver (phone booths - “hello, s’tat you?”) and how you never asked Dad to keep an eye on things (his glass eye was his favourite prop).
Dad travelled through life and the world with Mom. Together, they gave generously to their communities and eagerly learned everything they could about whatever their interests were at that moment. They were true life partners and it is very fitting that they are together again.
A celebration of both their lives will take place as soon as we’re able.
