Gary was born and raised in Winnipeg MB on his family’s farm. During his childhood you could find him adventuring, working/playing on the farm, skateboarding, and making trouble for his Mother. As a young teen he learned cabinetry and woodworking from his “Pops”. He found his passion and excelled as a cabinet maker, even owning his own business later in life. As a young man Gary followed his friends and brother into taekwondo. Amazingly he worked his way up to a second degree black belt and competed for many years. By fate, it was through taekwondo that Gary also met his wife Tamar, of 35 years. Anyone who knew Gary knows how many passions he had from motorcycling to hockey to jet skiing. Throughout his life nothing was too extreme. Doing things like wearing shorts in -50 weather and riding his bike to work were just his kind of normal.
Eventually Gary settled down (a little). His wife and children were his greatest and proudest achievements in life. Gary cherished teaching his kids everything he knew and filled the time with many adventures. Doing anything to provide the best life for his family didn’t take a second thought, so when the opportunity came to move to BC, Gary didn’t question it. A better life (with more sports) in Kelowna came to fruition in the years that followed. It was everything he envisioned. Nothing was ever boring, Gary wanted his kids to experience everything that life has to offer, especially through taking in the beautiful outdoors. He did that by taking them snowmobiling, boating, fishing, camping, biking, skating and snowboarding. To capture just how much joy and how many memories that were made is impossible.
Regardless of what he did in life, he excelled with grace and modesty. To say that he was the epitome of a hard working person is a profound understatement. In all avenues Gary took everyone in as family, especially his friends. His door was always open at work and home, meeting each person with non judgement and open arms. He brought happiness to everyone around him, from the sound of his laughter, his bright smile and stories about his life (which were all true!).
In the latter part of his life he battled cancer and beat it. Through that course he made very special friends and also helped them on their cancer journeys.
Gary left this earth doing what he loved. His last big ride was his final one.
Predeceased by Fritz (Poppa) and lived on through Karen (mom), Wife Tamar, Children: Aerielle, Jeremy (partner Allie) and Leah, and his pride and joy, grandson Asher, as well as his extended family and many many friends.
Thank you to everyone for all the years of friendship with Gary. A special thank you to all the first responders and search & rescue volunteers.
An even bigger thank you to Bryce, Dale and especially Dave- We cannot thank you enough and love you dearly.
