

(Iwan) John Tataryn was born July 25, 1929, to Mattheus & Maria (nee Matsyk) on a farm North of Wroxton, SK. He attended “Two Creeks” school a few miles from home. After achieving grade 10 in 1946, John set out to look for work. He worked in a lumber camp in MB, spent two years in Sudbury, ON, in a gold mine. He opened an oil station in St Thomas, ON. It was not successful therefore he ventured to Calgary Oil Co. From there, he went to work for Alaska oil, even was at the Arctic Circle, but found it too cold! The company offered him a job as a driller in Saudi Arabia. In 1969, he lived in Tripoli, North Africa. In 1974, he lived in Dakar Senegal, Africa and moved to Khartoum, Sudan in 1976. After 15 years being employed all over Africa he returned home and made his home in La Combe, AB. For his retirement, he moved to Kelowna and remained there till his passing. He travelled around the world, including England and Australia. He loved living at “The Dorchester!” John brought home very interesting gifts for his family from his travels. He never missed an event to send all his relatives letters and cards. He was predeceased by his parents, Mattheus and Maria Tataryn, his siblings; Harry, Irene, Nick, Andrew, Sam and Katherine. He is survived by nephews; Rick Tataryn (Wroxton) & Colin Ury & family (Seattle) and his niece, Karen Rubletz and family (Wroxton). A private family service will be held.
