

Jose de Medeiros Macedo, born December 19, 1941, in Portugal, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026 at the age of 84 surrounded by his wife and family by his side, in Kelowna, British Columbia. Jose had pulmonary fibrosis and endured a long and difficult illness with strength and quiet resilience.
Jose immigrated to Canada from the Sao Miguel ,Azores Portugal in 1966 and built a rich and meaningful life in the small forestry town of Houston, British Columbia. There, alongside his devoted wife of 56 years, Fernanda, he raised their three sons and created a home grounded in pride, hard work, and love.
A dedicated worker in the forest industry, Jose spent more than 35 years with Northwood Pulp and Timber and later Canfor before retiring in 2002. He was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to providing for his family.
Jose took great pride in his Portuguese heritage, as well as in his well-tended home and garden. He found joy in spending time in his shop, always tinkering and creating. He deeply loved his adopted country of Canada and held a special affection for the town of Houston, where he built his life and raised his family. He enjoyed simple pleasures such as camping and fishing with friends in the beautiful surroundings of British Columbia’s northern interior.
He is survived by his loving wife, Fernanda; his sons, Elvis (Sandra), Nelson (Shauna), and Paul (Tanis); and his cherished grandchildren, Braiden, IsaBelle, Sophia, Ashton, Ava, and Jonah.
Jose’s legacy lives on in the strong family he built, the home he cared for, and the memories of quiet days in the garden, time spent in his shop, and adventures in the outdoors. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated from St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1346 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC on Friday, May 29th, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Internment will follow at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
