She was born Kathleen Yvonne Wildman on July 29, 1949, in Kindersley, Saskatchewan to Clarence and Yvonne (nee Valleau) Wildman, the second of their seven children. After spending her childhood on the family farm outside Flaxcombe, Kathy left home at the age of 17 to attend nursing school in Saskatoon. Sent to Yorkton during her training to complete a practicum, she met her future husband Elton when he and a friend “claimed” to be members of the Yorkton Welcoming Committee for the trainee nurses.
Kathy and Elton married in 1970 and embarked on many adventures together. These included hitchhiking from Sydney through the Australian Outback to Perth. Before returning to Canada, they travelled through Europe with their eighteen-month-old son Aaron on their back. Eventually settling in Leduc, Alberta they raised their two boys while Kathy worked in the emergency room of the Leduc General Hospital and Elton was a partner in an accounting firm. In 1987, Elton accepted a position in New Zealand and the family immigrated. Two years later the family moved to Australia before returning to Canada in 1992. Following their return Kathy and Elton settled in British Columbia where they owned and operated Natural Rezources Health Food store in downtown Kelowna for over 25 years.
Throughout her life, Kathy was known for her kindness, generosity, and her sparkling blue eyes. She touched the lives of many with her warm smile, gentle nature, and compassionate heart. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will always remember her for the love and light she brought into their lives. Kathy’s short bout with cancer was eased by the many friends and family who stopped in to visit, brought her meals, a smile, and a laugh.
As a member of the Glenmore Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Kathy found great comfort and strength in her faith in her Creator. She particularly cherished the scripture found at Revelation 21:4.
Kathy was predeceased by her husband R. Elton in 2021. She is survived by her sons Aaron (Joanna) and Josh (Sharla) and four very special young people who always brought a smile to her face, her grandchildren Annika, Mackenzie, Erin and Samuel. She is also survived by her mother Yvonne, her sisters Jo-Anne and Sandra and brothers Norman and Darin as well as many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service in honor of Kathy’s life will be held at the Glenmore Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1880 Dallas Rd, Kelowna V1V 1P2, on Saturday May 13, 2023 at 3:00pm. For those wishing to join remotely a Zoom option will be available. Please contact the family for details.
